Sourced a paramo for me, that I could not find anywhere else. Excellent communication, will use again.

Simon was a great help to myself and my partner who'd recently injured (rock fell on her head). Would recommend to anyone doing the Dales Way

The shop owner knows what he is talking about and if I were to need anything in the future I would not hesitate to contact him. Top notch service!

Recently completed the Dalesway walk and stopped in Grassington on the second day. Unfortunately, I was in relatively new boots and was suffering with some pretty bad blisters and needed to get some help or advice on new insoles / gel heel cushions or something similar. We saw the Mountaineer shop and thought it would be the ideal place to stop and get some advice and potentially pick up some supplies, or new better socks perhaps.
We walked in quietly and were met with the owner of the shop sat behind the counter scrolling on his phone. He didn't look at us or say anything after we wished him a good morning.
After a few more seconds of being ignored, I said: "I'm suffering with some blisters and wondered..." I didn't even get to the end of my sentence and yet still with no eye contact, he just said in a loud exasperated voice "NO!"
I tried to ask again gently to see if he could point me to another shop, and again he just talked over me and said "No" - and carried on scrolling on his phone.
We were all incredulous that someone could be that rude. He was utterly obnoxious and sarcastic and for no apparent reason.
My friend encouraged me to leave and as we started to turn to leave, he sarcastically wished us goodbye.
I thanked him for his "help" and told him it was great..! Really wish I had given him a piece of my mind right there, but was shocked by how he was acting.
Maybe he didn't have anything that could help me, but it wouldn't have cost anything to be polite and maybe point me elsewhere.
This is surely someone who is interested in selling products to customers. (In a shop targeting walkers / tourists) but then treat 4 potential customers that come in like something on the bottom of his shoe is unfathomable.
I am at a loss to explain his behaviour, or why so many people have given such positive reviews about this bloke in the past. We weren't rude, or loud - we simply walked in to his shop and asked for his help, and he was downright rude without giving us even the courtesy of eye contact. Quite frankly if you don't like working with people, or walkers & tourists, get a different job.
Why would you work in a role dealing with people if you have no people skills or like taking your bad mood out on random people.
Can't speak for the quality of anything they sell, as never got to the point where he would even look at me, let alone sell me anything.
I ended up at a shop round the corner, who were helpful and grateful for the custom and went out their way for me.
I barely ever leave any reviews, but after the way he treated me, thought I'd let others know.
AVOID!

Great advice from Michael in store. Lots of choice available.
After getting soaked through yesterday in our ‘waterproofs’ we decided to finally invest in some Paramo jackets and trousers

Bought a Paramo Jacket, 2/2/22, owner very knowledgeable, no rush, just wanted us to pick the right product, left the shop with a Medium size jacket. When we left and sat down for a coffee, jacket felt too tight, walked back to the shop and exchanged for large size with no problem, highly recommend this shop. I should confirm the jacket was only worn indoors, Mountain & coffee shop.
Had a good walk around Malham later in the week, jacket performed amazingly well in very windy conditions with snow flurries, kept me warm and dry. The jacket was a replacement for previous Paramo Jacket which my Grandson claimed, I have tried other walking coats but Paramo seems to outperform all of them.

Initial service was good, but i have to say returns was a pain, ringing up to chase a refund and being met by grumpy unhelpful staff like how dare you return something! I think on this bvasis i wont be using again.

Great little shop with excellent stock. Don't worry that it looks like too much has been crammed in a small space - Michael will find what you need and give you a good Yorkshire appraisal of what you are buying. No nonsense service delivered with a good SOH! A rare and refreshing find these days.

What a fantastic shop and find in Grassington. Was directed there through the Paramo website, a quick call later to confirm stock and I was on my way. During the call I had mentioned that I was between hospital visits and the owner offered to close the shop for me while I was there to ensure limited contact. Brilliant, might I add extremely knowledgable, customer service.

I would highly recommend The Mountaineer shop. I recently purchased a Paramo fleece online and had a great experience. Unfortunately the item I ordered had gone out of stock but I was promptly emailed with the offer of an alternative colour which I happily accepted. Delivery was very quick and i'm happy with the product. Great product range, prices and communication.
